USA TODAY readers voted this Milwaukee speakeasy best in country

The results are in: a Milwaukee bar has been deemed the best speakeasy in the country by USA TODAY readers.

Shanghai MKE, a speakeasy tucked away in Black Cat Alley, took the No. 1 position as part of the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The bar, 2238 N. Farwell Ave., is known for its absinthe cocktails and low-profile entrance.

USA TODAY 10Best invites a panel of industry experts each week to nominate their favorite points of interest, in categories like food, drink, travel and lifestyle. Editors then vet the nominations and set aside a list of nominees to ask the public to vote on for a period of four weeks.

This month's category of lists are craft spirits. Multiple Wisconsin brands made other lists.
